Billy Rye is a native of Sulligent, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from Mississippi State University in 1988. For eight years, Billy coordinated the forest management and urban forestry programs of the Alabama Forestry Commission's Northwest District, assisting landowners and communities with the management of their forest resources. In this position, he provided non-industrial private landowners in a 7-county area with the latest in forest management advice, including timber sale coordination, state and federal cost-share programs, tax treatment of forestry related income, estate planning, managing for multiple benefits from the forest, and many other forestry-related topics. In June 1996, Billy left the Forestry Commission to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning his own business. The company that he founded, Forest Management Specialists, Inc., has assisted clients in 69 counties of 5 different states in the Mid-South region with the management of their forest resources. Mr. Rye is both a Registered Forester and a Certified Arborist. His specialties include marketing timber, coordination of commercial thinning operations, hazardous tree evaluation, preparation of urban forestry management plans, and the use of Global Position Satellite mapping technology for forest management purposes.
